Product info

LifeStraw is an award-winning, easy to use and ultra-lightweight water filter, which enables you to safely drink water from contaminated water sources. This makes it ideal for use outdoors and in emergency situations. LifeStraw is one of the most advanced and durable personal water filters available today.

The LifeStraw filters a minimum of 1,000 liters of water and removes a minimum of 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria and 99.9% of parasites, and it does not contain any chemicals, batteries or moving parts.

LifeStraw was invented by the Swiss-based company Vestergaard in 2005. Developed for extreme conditions, the technology has since been deployed in almost every major international humanitarian disaster. LifeStraw has also become a favorite among the outdoor segment as well as a popular emergency preparedness tool.

LifeStraw for Hiking and Camping
At only 56 grams, LifeStraw is the lightest and easiest way to stay hydrated while on the go. If you are in a rush, there is no need to stop and filter water by the lake. Just scoop water into your bottle, and sip from it with a LifeStraw as you walk. If you consume the recommended 3-4 liters of water per day, LifeStraw will last you at least 250 days.

LifeStraw for Travel and Backpacking
Because the LifeStraw is so small and lightweight, you can throw it into your suitcase; carry it around your neck or even in your pocket for travel in countries with unreliable drinking water. If you have ever been sick travelling, you know the importance of drinking filtered water to prevent waterborne illness.

LifeStraw for Emergency Preparedness
Following a natural disaster, a family may not be able to depend on their regular water supply. The LifeStraw is easy to use and has a five-year shelf life, making it perfect to include in emergency preparedness kits. A LifeStraw for each member in your household is a low-cost investment in peace of mind.

How to Use LifeStraw
Place the LifeStraw directly into the water source or pour the water into a container and sip the water up through the LifeStraw, as you would drink through a typical straw. There may be a little resistance the first time you use the straw until the membrane is wet. When you are finished drinking, simply blow air back through the straw to remove dirt and excess water before storage.

Technology
The LifeStraw contains specially designed hollow fiber ultrafiltration technology, most commonly found in industrial water treatment plants that clean a city’s water supply.
The inside of the LifeStraw consists of a large number of hollow fibers that resemble angel hair spaghetti, but much thinner. Each fiber has pores in its walls with a diameter of 0.2 microns or five hundred times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. When water is forced through the hollow fibers, only clean water can fit through these pores, blocking bacteria, parasites, and dirt from reaching the user. This purely physical method of filtration does not contain any chemicals.

The LifeStraw® technology has been independently tested and certified to meet EU directive 10/2011 and EU directive 1935/2004 regulatory standards and the United States EPA 1987 Protocol for Microbiological Water Purification. Please note: LifeStraw will currently not desalinate water or filter heavy metals or viruses.
